About the Session

The Environmental Emergency (E2) Regulations 2019, aim to help reduce the frequency and severity of environmental emergencies involving unplanned, uncontrolled or accidental releases of hazardous substances from fixed industrial facilities. The Regulations identify reporting requirements, including E2 plans, for facilities that meet certain thresholds for quantity and container capacities if holding any of the 249 regulated substances included in the Regulations. Information held in the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) E2 reporting system can be shared with Public Safety Authorities to assist municipalities in emergency prevention and preparedness by knowing the types and quantities of hazardous substances located in their communities.

What You Will Learn

At the end of this session:

1. All attendees will have a better understanding of the E2 regulations – why they exist, what defines an environmental emergency under CEPA, and requirements are for reporting an Environmental Emergency.
2. Industry will have a better understanding of what the requirements are for facilities to register with ECCC under the E2 regulations, the information and timelines associated with data submission, and emergency exercise requirements.
3. Public Safety Authorities (PSA's) will learn how to access information submitted to ECCC via the E2 reporting system on hazardous substances and how the information can be used to assist with emergency preparedness and prevention within their communities.
