About the Session

CIO Raiman Dilag, CEMC Heather Watson, and Emergency Manager Colleen Simpson, share the experience of Township of King as they have hardened their cybersecurity posture, and put their measures to the test in the municipality's annual emergency exercise. Key to this was harmonizing the Cyber Incident Response Plan with the Township's existing IMS-based structure. They share the storytelling elements brought to play to help enhance the realism and response measures. In addition to testing out aged BCP plans, this gave the leadership of the organization a chance to face ransomware scenarios and conditions that realistically challenged their decisions on whether to pay, and how to recover. It is a great example of collaboration between Emergency Management, the CEMC, and IT that yielded strong lessons learned, and praise from across the organization.
