BCP recognises that technical problems, such as computers going down, and then having plans in place to get the system back up and restoring lost data is critical. But that is not the only thing that needs to be considered in the planning process.

Consider the following business issue. Government departments issue pension cheques on a monthly basis. These payments are critical sources of income for those that receive them. The risk of a service disruption or loss of data is considered too great to not have a system in place to ensure that cheques continue to be issued, with adjustments to be made when service is restored.
